Meet Michelle
Hello! I am Michelle Denny, founder of Over the Moon Tutoring. It’s been said that whatever your hobbies were at age twelve, you may still be involved in one of them as an adult! Looking back, my story began at age twelve when I was hired as the sole caregiver for two terrific fourth-graders. I cared for them everyday, all summer long. This experience sparked my love of working with children and their families.
With over fifteen years of experience in education, I have observed what keeps students motivated to do their best and invest in their learning; essentials for success! Learning IS unique and each child brings their special abilities to the table. My passion is working one-on-one and with small groups of students teaching lasting strategies to improve student’s ability for academic success and confidence. Your child is amazing! Let’s keep their love of learning amazing too!
After raising our children in the lovely town of Exeter, New Hampshire; we recently relocated to our original hometown Portland, Oregon in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. I am excited to work with your child from wherever you call home!
Why Tutoring?
Many students feel vulnerable when a task becomes too difficult and often hesitate to ask questions around their peers, leaving them at a disadvantage. As adults, we can empathize with the challenges of learning new skills and understand their frustrations when our children believe that successfully completing a task is not within their reach.
My tutoring style includes applying a holistic approach to pedagogy which includes working with you and your child to develop a learning plan that is designed to strengthen their skills and learning goals.
What: Learning Is A Skill!
Your child will learn how to invest in their learning and acquire new strategies that improves their academic outcomes.
My passion is working with students of all abilities including students diagnosed with dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, auditory/cognitive processing and executive functioning skills. I am experienced in tutoring students up through age 20. My training and speciality is working with students grades K-5.
All effective tutoring should strive towards closing the gap between your child’s learning challenges. What makes my tutoring style unique? My tutoring style…
1. Helps students gain confidence in their learning and how they tackle their learning struggles
2. Coaches students to think about how they find the solution rather than teach them to do the work
3. Teaches students how to care about their learning progression and track effective results
4. Creates a joyful environment where your student feels energized by learning
